What are some books that shaped your values? How so?

Lost a lot of friends and made some bad life choices lately. Strained family relationships. Have maybe 30 bucks to my name. Stuck at a shitty job I'm afraid to quit because I don't know where to go for a new one because I live in a small town with no one hiring, and my power has been out for a week because of Hurricane Irma. Probably going to be out for another week too apparently. Crashing at an old friend from high school's place until it comes back on.

But for some reason, despite all of this, I have this weird feeling of euphoria. Sitting here watching my bud playing video games, reading The Idiot for the first time (enjoying it even though there's way too many goddamn scenes of people sitting in rooms) and listening to the new Now, Now song on my headphones. I don't know what the feeling is but I just feel at peace in spite of the pain. It's refreshing.
