Just read three sentences of Finnegan’s Wake and then tossed the book in the bin
Is this proper microdosing?

Yes, Finnegans Wake is what I call ‘The Good Book,’ and I’m only half joking. To me it’s not only the greatest novel ever written, it’s the greatest poem ever written, the greatest detective story ever written, and the most entertaining work in all literature. The funniest and dirtiest book in the world. People are intimidated by it. If the publishers just had the sense to put on the cover, ‘the funniest and dirtiest book in the world' it would sell a lot better, and people would make the effort to decipher it.

Could a non-native English speaker ever read this? I'm tempted to try it, seeing how it will never be translated into my native language.

>Finnegans Wake is an amalgamation of puns executed in dreamlike English, and it is difficult not to describe these as frustrated and incompetent... Jules Laforge and Lewis Carroll have played this game with better luck.

So, why /lit/ meme this book so much?

Literature ended with this. There is literally no reason to ever write a book again, no reason to even attempt to become a "classic writer" ever again. Just stop trying, literature's done, there's nowhere it can go from here

A formless and dull mass of phony folklore, a cold pudding of a book. Conventional and drab, redeemed from utter insipidity only by infrequent snatches of heavenly intonations. Detest it. A cancerous growth of fancy word-tissue hardly redeems the dreadful joviality of the folklore and the easy, too easy, allegory. Indifferent to it, as to all regional literature written in dialect. A tragic failure and a frightful bore.
