Lost all credibility here. He faults Monica in Confessions several times for allowing his conversion to be postponed (as early as Book I). His chastity or purity was NEVER a concern for Monica. In point of fact, she tolerated infidelity on part of her husband. She wanted two things )1 grand children, and 2) Augustine to convert to Christianity. Monica approved of all of his relationships, and there is never one instance of her criticizing any of his fornications. She had issue with him putting off conversion and baptism. Augustine even prays at one point that she is saved because she had bad doctrine. Augustine's anti-sexual views come mostly from the neoplatonists and manicheans. To think his mother instilled any of it, is refuted without any intuition by his own words about her.
