>albeit with a very low sex drive so that perhaps, just perhaps, he almost never acted upon his urges.

if he never acted on his urges, what makes you think he was a pedophile?

> because he wrote so many stories about them

so he did act on his urges?

fuck you anyway, i think "The Unstrung Harp" is the best encapsulation of the novel writing process ever written.

you're not asexual. you're posing as an asexual in the hope that a girl will notice and might find it intriguing. keep it up, though, you're making the rest of us look good by comparison.

you stop writing when the story has been told.

some rich new york investor got all weepy with nostalgia for the 80s and 90s, and threw a bunch of money into rebooting Omni magazine as a website. didn't appreciate that people aren't going to pay to read magazines online when most net content is free.

i do feel a little sorry for the interns he had working for them. poor bastards had to solicit content and then tell everyone they weren't accepting submissions when the ship went down.

i began to suspect they'd lost contact with reality when they offered me $400 for a story i'd previously posted on the web. they even sent me a contract.

the days of being paid to write are long gone.

the absolute best guide to novel writing is by Edward Gorey; it's called "The Unstrung Harp, or Mr Earbrass Writes a Novel". not sure if you can find it online, but here's one page.

i started writing a novel about four years ago. i'm still working on it. around 78,000 words so far, and there is a hell of a lot that still needs to be done.

1: Read anything by Jack Vance, and look up any unfamiliar words as you come across them ("The question is nuncupatory!")

2: Read Edward Gorey and do the same.

3: goto 1

yeah, it's a good feeling, coming up that home stretch... but i've still got at least another 70,000 words to go, and then i have to revise it, make sure it's sequential, then get some objective people to check it, and THEN i have to think about submitting the fucking thing to a publisher. god damn. Edward Gorey was right.

novel writers do it, but it takes them three years to finish.

Gorey's "The Unstrung Harp" is the best description of someone struggling with writing a novel i have ever read.
