What am I in for?

What are the equivalent books for other mythologies?
Has it been replaced for Greece and considered outdated or does it still hold strong?

Why is pride/arrogance/hubris so frowned upon in Greek mythology? What's so bad about seeing oneself superior even if it may be misguided? (sometimes it's not even misguided e.g. Arachne)

How do I become a mythology expert? Is this book the path forward?

I decided to have a sort of a theme for the year.
Starting with greek/roman gods, then judaism, christianity, islam. Faust, Paradise Lost, Divine Comedy. Things along those lines.

I just finished reading Mythology and asked myself is it really necessary to read about a thousand pages worth of the Iliad and the Odyssey when I already know the essential stuff about their characters, themes, stories, etc. now that I have read Mythology?

I just want to start reading about the Pre-Socratics and the Sophists and read Plato and Aristotle. So is it safe to skip the Iliad and Odyssey?

Is this any good?
