he didn't gain "riches" per se, but rags-to-highly-educated-prominent-religious-and-social-figure pretty much qualifies, I'd say.

not even black, but his life was so compelling. even just for his account of life in the 20th century US is interesting by itself. it gets re-read every few years, either browsed or fully.

enough with the Feynman hate ITT. "Surely" was great.

I haven't read many bios, but I greatly recommend this one. After his criminally misspent youth, from age 20 until he was gunned down about 19 years later, he managed to: educate himself better than most, realize that evil men were using him for his natural talent and charisma, renounce the NOI and embrace universal brotherhood, and change the USA forever. I found the whole thing utterly fascinating.

Of your list, I've only read Autobiography of Malcolm X. "Read" is an understatement. I think I exercise no hyperbole when I say I've read that book more than any other. I find it compelling every time I pick it up. The afterwords by Haley and Ossie Davis were gold, as well. He was right, he knew he was right, and he would use his mind to engage anyone who stood in his path--and publicly. This cat was not only alpha as fuck, but mentally miles ahead of his detractors.

So, yeah. I, uh, recommend it.
