I'd like to see you try - the man is 73 and still runs 10 kilometers a day as of 2019. You best hope you could catch up to him in the first 100 meters, because after that, you'd never see him again.

By bad moment-to-moment writing? Yes - very intentionally.

>I need external to the text real-life issues to enjoy my narrative
I'm a "plot, details, and quality writing enjoyer", books are a form of entertainment and I don't make a habit of seeking out the nerd sewing circle where people discuss if the blue curtains were secretly the author's dead wife. Good book, bad book; that's it. Reading the book like I do, basically any part of the book with Okada in it sucked, didn't feel particularly meaningful, was extremely repetitive and can in fact be adequately summarized as
>man sits in hole after marriage collapses
which is trash-tier bad reading compared to the other half of the book discussing the lives of soldiers actually traveling the world and doing important things, viewed through the lens of Murakami intrigue and weird.

>Be reading Dance Dance Dance
>be completely unaware of it having that popular memequote about "The past increases, the future recedes. Possibilities decreasing, regrets mounting"
>Felt like a complete schizo when it played
Actually made the section better, too, that book was a jam

>He literally isn't. His writing is formulaic, and after the third book of his you can literally predict how he's going to write stuff
Kinda. He writes three good books - the "weird magical nonsense" one, the "magicless grounded romance" one, and the "biographical interviews" one. He made a career out of shuffling the minor plot details, subject matter, and character names in these three books.

>read about four of his books
>main character often gets laid multiple times
>actually character have sex, except me, the reader

>give it a go to 1Q84
>many scenes talking about penis, main character seems to have a quite nice penis
>tfw my penis is small

Can anyone relate? Or it is just me?
Love his writing, but I feel sort of down for not having sex as much as he writes about.
