Has anyone ever been a great intellectual, while also writing great fiction (prose or poems)?

They both require high intelligence and a high degree of creativity/orderliness in writing, and yet intellectuals tend to produce mediocre fiction, while fiction authours tend to produce mediocre intellectual work.
