One of the finest novelists ever, and I'll hear no arguments to the contrary. Even Nabokov agreed, as much as he hated to do it.

I'm upset that he didn't like Jane Austen, who was a much better writer than he was.

What are some other novels you could do this to? It would have to be something with a lot of female characters that could be drawn as attractive anime girls. Maybe some Jane Austen books? Imagine a light novel version of Mansfield Park or Emma.

Anybody who doesn't at least read Jane Austen, George Eliot, and Emily Bronte is missing out, they're all quite good writers. Especially Austen and Eliot. I've never been able to figure out why Austen particularly makes this board seethe.

Precisely the reason based Jane has lasted better than any other novelist of her era, because she ignored the grand narratives and focused on timeless domestic concerns rather than bore you about Napoleon or the revolutions
