Why is Cormac Mccarthy praised when he's essentially writing genre fiction. No problem with that I enjoy him but how come there aren't scifi/fantasy/horror authors respected like him. Genuinely don't want this to be baity or anything. I'm ESL and I'm wondering

If you want to understand all themes in BM, read Bible (KJV), Illiad/Odyssey, Paradise Lost, Moby-Dick and maybe Divine Comedy and some gnostic texts

If you want more of the same, just read more Cormac McCarthy (Outer Dark, Child of God for the early phase, Border trilogy for middle and Road for the late). I think Suttree is his best novel after BM though. If you like his earlier work, read Faulkner: As I lay dying, Sound & Fury, Light in August...

If you liked western part idk, I didn’t read many westerns but I can recommend Butcher’s crossing
