>Kubrick is a proper filmmaker.
Shot composition is neutered. Take Kubrick's methodology of shot composition for example. He took Eisenstein's approach of structuralist shot creation, but changed Eisenstein's often triangular depth module to a one-point symmetrical perspective. What people perceived as depth in the latter was ultimately oversimplification, in reality mind you (not caligari expressionist denotation). Therefore, he was asserting this is the single goal of life. He took overly readable images to an extreme. Really, Kubrick only worked on wavelength, but his obfuscating tone and polysemitic metaphors (2001 monolith) culled you into believing there was more thematic depth beyond a shaggy God story.
