How did this woman come to exercise such a massive influence on culture, society, history, economics, and monetary policy?

Is it because she was a genius, or was she merely an extraordinarily hard worker? Or perhaps the explanation lies in the realm of moral superiority?

Does anybody else here LOVE (not like, LOVE) Ayn Rand?

I've been reading Atlas Shrugged and after being exposed to her brutally rational ideas I'm convinced there is a conspiracy of silence against her in academia, possibly due to misogyny.

When you hear Ayn talking about 'looters' and 'moochers' you can't help but detecting a grain of truth in it. It really hits at the heart of righteous morality: a good person is one who lives for others, not himself; a 'looter' (thief) or a 'moocher' (panhandler) is someone who tries to make other human beings serve THEM while giving nothing in return.

How can you not consider Rand's idea on that righteous and correct? The only issue I can see with it is that it's just so obvious it may be mundane.

Consider also Rand's ideas on 'types of men'. The man who is, the man who is not and knows it, the man who is not and doesn't know it, and the man who could have been. Any real man knows exactly what she's talking about here. Every man knows that he is in a constant struggle and that certain outcomes, certain failures, make him less than a man. A man is a man in the full sense when he is righteous, non-abusive, when he lives for others, and for his work, when he works for the sake of his work and not merely for money. The man who falls from this standard is always some variety of mere 'boy'. Who can really argue with this? This is a classic piece of human wisdom that is objectively irrefutable; Ayn Rand's contribution to it was two fold:

1. She stated it more CLEARLY than anyone before her had done;

2. She added a level of nuance, exploring the types of failed men and the way they react to and try to bring down real men.

It's really pretty valuable stuff.

They seem to be this big movement but I never actually hear from them, either in the media or in real life.

Jesus Christ this ad is dumb.

The hyperbole is outrageous. The chosen "cause" is pointless; people don't deliberately choose to ignore stop signs and red lights, they do this kind of shit because of lapses of judgment or drunk driving.
