That's not the point i'm making. Even in the canon there are so many other works people could be reading or have on their shelf. I'm not deriding people because their shelves aren't filled with obscure works people have never heard of. But it's really just the same books over and over. Heck, i'm not even really moaning at people just having this stuff, it's understandable that people on here new to /lit/ just have /lit/core stuff, i just don't see the point of having the same thread all the time if there is no variety whatsoever.

>complain that maths is pointless because muh calculator
>but all this basic shit should be taught when it takes a computer and 10 minutes to learn by yourself if you aren't a complete dumb dumb

>tfw you realize art is just a pretensious endeavor with it's attempts to try and complicate and romanticize our inane and simple lives

Why does /lit/ hate Rand but love Stirner? Aren't they pretty similar?

We're a culture that embraces the collection of intellectual artifacts and fetishism instead of actually focusing on becoming intellectuals ourselves. When you remove those things you're removing some of the variety you've become accustomed to participating in, it sounds like it's leaving you with a mild depression. It's hard to develop a single minded passion after inundation with that kind of variety. I still haven't found an effective way to deal with it. Good luck to you.

Aren't some works that comment on the human condition also themselves escapism?

Why does the author of novels have to convey their thoughts through a fictional narrative? Wouldn't it be much quicker to convey their thoughts simply and directly? Aren't the critics and scholars who disparage escapism themselves also participating in it to some extent?

My own. YA series I'm working on about a ghost and the reincarnated love with whom it time travels. It's of course an awful work, in the droll way that all YA stories are awful. But I've been having vivid dreams about this story for years and the ghost is always there. It will be published under a pseudonym and if nothing comes of it, oh well. At least I put down that fucker on paper.

Yeah sorry, work SHOULD be optional in a post-scarcity society but there's a massive propaganda campaign underway to ensure the middle class HATE the concept of free loading. They are encouraged to regurgitate the "Why can't you just work harder? Being poor/out of work is your own fault" lines and view their countrymen with disgust and contempt. Meanwhile, their memetic has been bought and paid for by the very people working to keep the middle and lower classes working their lives away, all in the name of a higher profit margin. GG thanks for playing.
