The artistic trend to trot out more “ugly” or angra in the various media is a symptom of the times. The industrial Revolution and the continued, indeed intensification, of the suppression of humanity, not forgetting the propagandist lie proclaiming we’re freer than ever, has brought us a lot of ugliness into our lives and art reflects that.
Romanticism is maybe what we want, but some also want genre fantasies, or some other “comfy” escapism.
How about that art that urges us to rebel? Better than the art that tries to lull us into believing in reviving the past, imo

It depends on the descriptions given. But if there’s o description of a place (or characters too) I tend to fill it in with my imagination. And then the author pulls the rug out from under me and describes things and I have to start all over.
