A lot of the information in these sorts of occultic books is cryptic and vague to the unitiated, filling the reader with esoteric knowledge not known to the common man.

Then they define terms such as hylics and pneumatics, where the reader now has a new group to relate with and can dismiss 'hylics' as not capable of understanding.

Finally, they advise you to never debate the thoughts presented within these books with the unitiated by preventing discussion on the contents within. 'Do not throw pearls to swine,' i.e 'do not share this knowledge with hylics, they wouldn't understand.'

These books were written by adepts, usually themselves nobles and merchants with magic powers and mystical superiority.
