While >>13322170 isn't wrong, I'll offer a different perspective.
Kierkegaard saw himself as no philosopher nor theologian nor reformer, but as a simple poet with no authority--authority to reform the church. Kierkegaard's one great concern, the concern that motivated his every act, the point towards which all his earlier works (Either/Or, Fear and Trembling, etc.) were merely a preparation, was to attack the Established Church. He was influenced by Luther, but saw himself as no Luther-esque reformer; he was not at that level, without authority as he was. His job was to be a proto-reformer, to call out the vanity of the church without offering a concrete replacement. Naturally, then, his philosophy and theology are centered on the individual's existence before God, since he saw the church and the priests as unfit to mediate that relationship. They had all gone out of the way, they had all become corrupted; Hegelianism's specter lurked in every pastor's shadow. The church no longer witnessed for Truth but had fallen into complacency. It taught comfort though Christ came not to bring peace but a sword. In short, Kierkegaard aims to do nothing but disturb the ecclesiastical order of his day, and disturb the individual from his dogmatic stupor into a radical new relationship with the Almighty. In short, Kierkegaard should be summarized in his own words:
>I comprehended that it was my task to make difficulties everywhere.

>As loudly as here is indicated (I say 'indicated', for in fact I constantly tone down the note to the humble admission), so loudly must the note be struck, if there is to be any seriousness and sense and character and truth in making a protest against the Established Church and wishing to reform it.
>In case now anyone among us dares to step out ethically in the role here indicated, appealing moreover as an individual to a direct relationship with God, then I shall instantly (so it is I understand myself at this instant, but I cannot even know whether the next instant I may not be deprived even of the conditions for being able to do it, the next instant, perhaps while I am getting this published), I shall instantly be at his service, by undertaking what before God I shall understand as my task. This task of mine will be to follow him, the Reformer, step by step, never budging from his side, to see if step by step he is in the true character of his role, is actually the Extraordinary...
>No, if there is no such man among us, let us stick to the Established Church; let us enter into ourselves, let each one for himself admit how far behind we are in Christianity, but Thou, O my God, wilt preserve me from making things even worse by wanting mendaciously to carry out a reform.
From "The Moral" to "Christ as the Pattern," Lowrie's translation, pg. 218-19 of my edition. Unpublished during Kierkegaard's lifetime.

My nonfiction masterwork is a commentary of the Book of Mormon. 70k words into it right now, will be done at 250k.
After I'm done I'm going to write my novel, which is going to be The Stranger but replacing Meursault with not!Kierkegaard and breaking off his engagement instead of shooting an Arab, subsequently being subjected to a Job-esque trial and questioning by his friends.
