A story thats pretty much like the traditional 'Power corrupts, people overthrow corrupt government, they become corrupt as well when they rule' kinda idea. However, it focuses on the relation between worker and ruler. Who is truly in charge? The leader, or the worker? Obviously, both are in charge, and share the relationship, but my idea plays with the idea.
The main character is a part of a group of friends, and is the smartest one of them. They notice that their current government sucks, and seek to overthrow it. Due to Smart Guys genius, they manage to overthrow the corrupt government, putting themselves in charge. Except Smart Guy, who is content with being a simple worker, but pulls the strings in whatever way he can,
The country has little resources, so they go to war with another country. After a war over resources, the friends, whom have shared leadership, start fighting amongst themselves. Smart Guy tries his best to pull his strings to salvage the situation, but it all goes to hell, and one friend kills the others, and becomes a dictator to 'keep the citizens safe'. One friend dissappears, and creates a resistance movement. SG becomes a worker for the leader. The resistance leader is assassinated, and the SG, in a rare fit of rage, takes command, and manages to overthrow his Dictator friend after a bloody campaign. SG puts a better person in charge, and becomes an advisor, to prevent anything that bad from happening again.
The ending is bittersweet, SG has made a better future for the people, but his friends had slaughtered each other, and they are forever demonized.
