Typically, in the Western world, people read words one at a time from left-to-right.

Are certain people, irrespective of geographic location, capable of processing multiple words or even paragraphs on a page simultaneously?

I quite literally just read over a publication that had used the improper form of denoting possession. It was literature published within the US, so you'd think it would follow general conventions. However, they still added the additional 's' after the apostrophe with 'Jesus'.

My point being, "regular" people don't care much for things only those of whom are persnickety in nature care for. That, or it's such a inconsequential little obscurity that people don't bother to inform themselves.

Also, I don't think your schoolteacher liked it very much that they were being questioned about a matter they should know all about, to some extent. Being told that you're wrong by a little child is quite humiliating.

Should we worry about reading speed?

I took some phony test a couple days ago, and it said that I read at 250wpm, with a comprehension rate of 100%, of which was barely above average, even bordering painfully average. It took me around five days to finish Siddhartha, reading for about an hour a day, and about the same time span to read Candide.

I just picked up a copy of Karamazov; how many eons will it take for me to read this masterpiece? Should I even bother?

Here's the test I mentioned: http://www.readingsoft.com

I never understood "I am."

Its contraction is "I'm," but they cannot be used in the same manner.

You cannot reply to "Who's there?" with, "I'm." Is there a grammatical term for this?
