I am now at an age where the choices I make are much more consequential than ever before and I regret every single one. I am currently working my way through a law degree- well I say degree it's actually a diploma which is able to give me for all intents and purposes the same education and the same weight as a graduate only LLB. This has pigeonholed me into one future: Law. I like law, I'm good at law, I do not want a career in law. I want to be a lecturer and I have absolutely no way out. I will be 28 when this thing ends and will have virtually no money by the end of it. I think I may be fucked in a deeper and gayer way than simply wageslaving at some McBurgertown. I declined an offer for a Classics masters and an English masters for this course because I was worried about financial security but now I feel I'll just be fucking miserable and would have been better off making 20k a year on some PHD and then writing like a fucking machine as I try and get some position in my country.

Hello all. I love reading but I cannot do it while walking, so I listen to audiobooks and podcasts. Is there anything you guys would recommend on philosophy and literature?
Lately I really enjoyed the U22 podcast on Ulysses - which, ironically, has been left unfinished for now, just like most people leave the book unfinished.
Audiobooks and book-based podcasts thread, I guess.

Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.

If Dostoyevsky was alive today what do you think he’d write about?

Not the anon you were replying to, but the part where you said that caring about things in an apathetic world will make you lonely really hit home.

What makes literature different from other art forms to have so many chuds in comparison? I can think about houellebecq, celine, bloy, Hamsun, Mishima, etc. but when I trie to name some musician with right wing tendencies comes none to mind

Western culture is depraved and narcissistic.

This mentality is really no different then when a Roman patrician would look at his villa and think of all the slaves that worked to construct it. It's a fetishtization of labour under the guise of emancipation.
