Read The Name of the Rose if you have the patience for some thick stuff. People get turned off or on by the obsessively detailed setting. It's only of those investigator investigates the culture for us as he investigates the crime things but very, very well done. One of my favorite books.

ITT: Books that are good but too fucking long

I just finished this book and I really liked it a lot. I think the mystery as it unfolds is gripping, but I also found myself thinking a lot about the growth of Adso as he learns about human nature and imperfection as it relates to faith. His notes on the events of the book toward the end really reminded me a great deal of some things I have had to learn as I have grown older.

Has anyone here read this? I think it's already one of my favourite novels.

What does /lit/ think of it?

How in the hell do I read it without learning latin and italian beforehand?
It seemed very good back when I tried, but I couldn't grasp 1/3rd of it.
