I've had up to here with this shit. You don't get to bitch about Westerners misrepresenting other cultures while claiming the West is this monolith which can never legitimately say anything, that doesn't have European fingerprints both inside and out, is or could be part of its identity! I'm tired of being told these amazing Eastern disciplines are way beyond my understanding purely because of my birthplace, while at the same time being DENIED any kind of mystification of them! You people are maddening!

What the fuck do you even want? If you see people getting wrong then correct them! Don't shake your head and walk away thinking you'll have the last laugh because those ignoramuses don't get the real (i.e. YOUR) vision of this thing! You're not helping anything!

Thinking about how John Green is being taught in some high schools has made me come to the conclusion that literature should not be taught in public schools. Obviously if they're teaching young adult fiction from the last 15 years there are serious problems, but I don't think it can be fixed. Who decides which books should be taught, the federal government? The local school board? What if the parents disagree with the morals in the book, like how John Green puts gratuitous sex scenes in his work? Who decides what books are important enough to teach?

And really, what's the point of teaching literature? Why is the government spending money to teach kids about books that were written to entertain people? If someone is interested in reading, that's great. You don't need the government to get a habit started for you. I watch a lot of classic films; I never took a class. I developed my love of movies myself from my own interests, no tax dollars spent.

Thoughts?

>writes a book about a wimpy, brainy nerd who gets blowjobs from girls who are amazed by how big his dick is
How much more obvious could it be that he missed having sex in high school and he's fantasizing about it now. To make it worse he's shoving his sexual fantasies onto actual teenage girls. They're even teaching this book in high schools.

>I wanted so badly to lie down next to her on the couch, to wrap my arms around her and sleep. Not fuck, like in those movies. Not even have sex. Just sleep together, in the most innocent sense of the phrase. But I lacked the courage and she had a boyfriend and I was gawky and she was gorgeous and I was hopelessly boring and she was endlessly fascinating. So I walked back to my room and collapsed on the bottom bunk. Thinking about if people were rain. I was drizzle and she was hurricane.
What can I do to make sure my writing never sounds like this?
