/lit/,
I just finished this book and wanted to have a sit down about why everyone has such strong opinions about Murakami. I thought it was okay, not the pinnacle of Japanese literature and I felt it had some pacing issues. Are there any other books that better showcase his talents, or am I better off stopping while I'm ahead?

>Murakami thread.

Why does he get so much hate around here? I mean, most of his novels don't really offer anything special, but the majority of them are still a lot better than most of the shit being shoveled today.
Also why is The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle his most acclaimed book? To be fair, i'm only 450 or so pages into it, so I don't have a complete opinion, but nothing about it has really stood out that much. I even enjoyed 1Q84 more than this, so far. But again, I'm not finished so I can't give a final opinion. Pic related is my favorite.

H. Murakami and other contemporary Japanese authors thread, I suppose.

I'm on my second read through of Kafka on the Shore and I have to agree with Murakami when he says that his novels are best understood with several reads, though the number of novels this can be attributed to i'm sure is vast if not the whole of them.

Hey /lit/.

I have never read any of Haruki Murakami's large body of work and I would like to begin with Kafka on the Shore, but I have a question.

Is this book appropriate to be read by a 53 year old mother? I am in a book club with my mother and I don't want to select a book for us to read that she would find distasteful. I mean she's pretty open minded but I don't think she would appreciate something hugely grotesque or sexual.

If Kafka on the Shore is too inappropriate, are there any other Murakami novels that are on the lighter side?

Thank you for being great people.

Just finished all 800 pages of this thing, and I feel like I didn't get anything out of it. What an empty, meaningless piece of shit.

Am I right?

Hey, /lit/. I need your help on a little something.

What are some really good books featuring incest or relationships between an older lady and a younger boy?

Pic related.

Can someone explain, to the best of their ability, this whole fucking book? I finished it today and I can't really seem to piece together the whole trans-dimensional mechanic and the significance of the "concepts" in relation to that mechanic. Also the teacher with the dream in the beginning, what the fuck was that?

Help me out, I'm just thinking in circles around this book. It was mesmerizing but I think I'm too stupid.

So, I've been reading Kafka on the Shore and it's been pretty decent so far, but I just got to some random part where a dude kills cats and forces this tard to watch. I know Murakami novels are supposed to be surreal and ambiguous, but I guess this was just too deep for me. Should I just ditch this one?
