I am starting to think that this whole literature and philosophy thing is just a cope.

Let's just take Chad (as hackneyed as he is), he is happy. He doesn't need any philosophy, maybe he read a book or two sometime in his life. His belief in god is at the most appendage-like, reduced to holidays or like with muslims that only respect a few rules like not to drink alcohol. And despite that, he still is happy. He works, he has probably a dozen girls if not more and everybody likes him, all without any of this.

Is including 4chan in your book cringe or based? I've started writing a /r9k/ novel about a man who tells a "cautionary tale" (and the trick is that the tale isn't cautionary, it actually teaches nothing and he just rambles and feels sad, Laurence Sterne and Machado de Assis style)about how his life went to the absolute bottom of the pit, and how he failed to climb out of that (i don't have the ending planned yet), and i'm thinking about including 4chan posts, with sentences like

What are some kino books on film? I'm looking for something that pays more attention to cinematography, and techniques to achieve beautiful images. But books like Sculpting in Time are welcome as well :)

Wrong. I know it's in vogue to role-play the "I'm just such an antisocial introvert geek xD I hate people!!1!" character, but in reality humans are social creatures; even watching Youtube is a social activity, although very diluted and remote. There is not a single person who would truly rather watch a LCD screen in bed alone all day than be spending time with a cute, amiable, intelligent woman or doing something outdoors with friends who share your interests. The problem is that OP's friend is autistic, is self-aware in regards to his social impediments, is afraid of rejection, and so he settles for solitude and "safe" pseudo-social activities (activities that shallowly mimic social interaction but without the danger of rejection) out of cowardice, convincing himself that he prefers loneliness so that he doesn't have to confront his cowardly nature and can shirk responsibility for his pitiful condition.

I know this because I'm the same way, essentially a coward.

How often do you drop novels you cba to finish? Is it a bad habit or is it better not to waste time trudging through shit you don't like out of principle?

How to read faster without speed reading? I average 50-70 pages a day, meaning that i spend 3 or 4 days on a fucking
200 page book. I want to at least bring that to a hundred. How do you guys do it? I've tried speed reading and as you can guess it didn't work. I couldn't retain anything.
