Peterson is popular because he preaches what used to be common sense, but has been lost over the last decades.You're right that he's mostly just a daddy figure; but that's really what so many guys need nowadays.
Zizek is the complete opposite of common sense. Zizek might 'shit' on PC culture but he never dares to truly dismiss it, only to cast it into new shapes. Why settle for the guy who says "maybe feminism got some things wrong", when you can go for the guy who just throws it out altogether? Someone like Lasch, who Zizek quotes quite often, were far more daring in pointing out the wounds of contemporary society, and Lasch had no problem with being a total iconoclast, while Zizek doesnt quite go as far.
But perhaps most importantly, Peterson has concrete advice. Even banal advice like "clean your room bucko" is concrete. Sniffing through thousands of pages of Hegelian dialectics or Lacanian psychoanalysis is the total opposite of being concrete, and it offers nothing for the average disenfranchised young man to actually do. There is no shortage of theory today, but there is a shortage of theory manifested into action.

The problem is more in mainstream academic philosophy. The people you mentioned are still there but aren't nearly as well-known and influential as those like Foucault, Lacan, Deleuze, Sartre, Kristeva, Adorno, later Frankfurter Schule, etc.
I think i should've rephrased it to modern academic philosophy, since philosophy, by nature, can exist in a near infinite amount of spaces outside academia as well.
