I read the first two Dune books and I really enjoyed the ecology aspect. Any tree hugger fiction /lit/ recs?

Is it worth it? It seems awfully long.

Dune is pretty good I suppose, but I don't understand the people claiming it's the holy bible of sci-fi. Most notably it suffers from alot of messy writing when it comes to the smaller-scale stuff and how it's describing certain things like how they were able to ride giant worms whilst its entire body was rotating, or like how Paul's Mentat abilities are practically non-existent in the beginning and then start going into overdrive out of nowhere.

How does God Emperor compare it to it?

Just finished this... what's up with /lit/'s hate for this book? It was pretty damn good. I can for sure see the influences on science fiction it had. Do they hate it because it's popular atm?

Loved this book, especially the religious parallels. The visionary stuff is just cringy 60s hippy crap. There's no such thing as "a drug that gives the user a longer life span, greater vitality, and heightened awareness and can also unlock prescience in some people"

Is this actually any good or is it reddit? People draw similarities between this and Star Wars and Game of Thrones, both of which I'm not a fan of. Wondering if that's accurate.

How does /lit/ feel when movie and TV show adaptations aren't 100% faithful to the books? How do you feel when creative liberties are taken by the director(s), despite whether or not the original book or the adaptation is better?

You probably aren't looking at all. There are tons of fantasy novels, even popular ones, that aren't medieval fantasy. Pic related as an example.

Reading through the first book of Dune right now. I am at the part where Paul is about to destroy all the spice for the Guild. It has been a very phenomenal time so far reading this.

I enjoy Frank Herbert's style of writing to be perfectly honest.

Hey /lit/. I just picked up Frank Herbert's "Dune" and just wanted to get your opinions on it. Also, Dune thread I guess.

All these desert/Fremen chapters are putting me into a coma. I just want to get back to the scheming noble houses of the imperium that were the focus early on. It's a fucking relief to get the odd harkonnen chapter, but then only to return 7 pages later to see what these boring fucking sand people are doing in their mud huts.

Why is everyone in the Dune universe a fucking shitslamist? Is it because "muh desert planet"?

I just finished Dune and hot damn it was great. I'm fairly convinced to keep reading the following books, but I'm afraid they won't be as good and could ruin it.
May I ask from the people who read them if they'll be up to the task?
