Do you know the stories of these books? If you're just getting into literature (and '84/BNW makes me think you are) why don't you look for novels that relate to your current interests first of all? There's no point in reading The Prince in the hope that your eyes will suddenly be opened and you'll have a new found appreciation for the narrative and the philosophy behind it, that thing is a fucking slog! The reason books like 1984 are so popular for people getting into literature is they appeal to a very teenage mentality, one in which overseers determine the destiny of others, in a style that is (reasonably) accomplished. At the age of 25 I'm certain you have your own interests and ideas that would better serve as a vehicle into reading. Are you still into hiking? There are plenty of well written travel journals that could help your transition into 'higher' reading (see pic).

no, seriously, pick one (or say, both)! these are two different requests. do you just want travel literature recommendations? this is from the wiki.

/lit/ do you really judge a book by it's cover? I mean if I want to really get into a book, I have to read the first chapter to see if I'm going to continue to read. What makes you pick up that book and by it? The chapter, the hype, or the author? what?
