OP here, so I've been looking through these lists
>>4871987
and this is exactly what I've been looking for. Right now I am compiling all the lists into one so I can get the best sense of how cast the "canon" is.

But while doing this, something came up to me. Is it worth reading all of these works that arent originally in English? Should I only read works that I can understand through their native tongue? I am currently fluent in English, and getting there through French, so while I lose quite a bit and I can still read a good amount.

>Journey to the End of the Night, Celine
8/10, great prose, plot slows down after Africa and takes a long time to pick back up, over all leaves a good taste in my mouth.

>Oblomov, Goncharov
7/10, least inspiring audiobook to listen to while working out, had to get a print copy and some cigarettes to enjoy it but enjoyed it thoroughly once I did.

>Ulysses
10/10, positively scrotum-tightening.

/lit/, started a short story, please critique what I have so far.

Arianna -

Arianna sat still for exactly seven minutes, oblivious to the drunken white noise that filled the Halloween masquerade which was just outside the bathroom, staring at a painting inches in front of her, before Lindsey Knittle entered.

“Ari, where is he?” Lindsey asked, lifting up her mask.

Arianna kept staring at the painting. Her chin rested on her hands which were laced and propped up by her elbows, which rested on her thighs. She wore a thin sky blue summer dress with skinny shoulder straps which contrasted sharply with her dark black hair, and her mask lay on her lap. Lindsey kept looking at Arianna for another moment, then at the painting, then Arianna, and then with a sigh turned to her right to look into the bathroom mirror to check her makeup.

“Ari, I’d hate to break you away from Monet’s Japanese Bridge, but he should have been here an hour ago, and-“

“Where is who, pretty girl?” Arianna said smiling.

The bathroom was seven feet long and four feet wide, which was just big enough for one person to pass from one end to the other, but not two at once. The wall paper all around had a minimal mint-green floral design with a white background, but the white had faded to a very light yellow and was peeling off here and there all over. The shower was at one end of the room, directly to Arianna’s right, and its walls were covered in plastic since Lindsey’s father began remodeling it two years ago. The vanity and the mirror above it took up the rest of the space.

“You know who I’m talking about. Your little boyfriend. The big mouth. The one with the most darling eyes. You know-“ she put her mask on and faced Arianna with bravado “-the glass prince.”

Arianna was still staring at Lindsey but was no longer smiling.

“Oh, him”

Arianna resumed looking back at the painting. Lindsey took off her mask and turned away from Arianna.

“You know we can’t have a true masquerade without the glass prince.” Lindsey said. “Just like you can’t have a true masquerade without the savages, without the girl about to be married off, without the queen."

/lit/, how would you describe how the girl is moving at 1:22 in this video?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm5CboTXr90

Forgive me please for the video, I saw a girl at central parking skipping/hopping/bobbing like this and its uncanny how close the two are in how they are moving.

Skipping and hopping seem too quick and active to describe this, not relaxed enough, bobbing just feels too vague and doesnt capture this movement.

As far as ive experienced sexism, men and women are pitted against each other over trivial matters because they arent educated to get past delicious controversy.

Ive personally been wrongly accused of "sexual misconduct" at college as I was helping a semi-conscious girl move her hair before she threw up, and was photographed and treated as if I was trying to get frisky with her. At the same time a few months later, my two hall mates essentially raped a girl though she did it voluntarily. Both incidents, among others, happened because both sexes acted moronically.

We need less anger and more courage to doubt ourselves and then accept ourselves. We should wonder if we do act sexist because of some unseen privilege, while at the same time wonder where this narrative of sexism comes from (chrstian narrative of sex being inherently ugly being an example)
