How's Kaufmann's translation of Faust? Are there preferable ones?

Is /lit/ not interested at all in romanticism, especially the German one?

While I realize that many people on here are indeed imitating intelligence, I see that when someone brings up a complex idea (more in everyday conversation than on /lit/) people that don't understand the subject usually check out and accuse the participants of being pseudo intellectual hipsters. Once again, I do realize that often they may be right, but it seems to me that the average man is irritated by intellectuality and anything he has trouble understanding. Recently, I see this happening more and more, especially in regard to the shitty hipster jokes people make.

Do you think that the common man is inherently jealous of those that express interest in topics of literature, philosophy, and science, or do you think that this comes from something else?

I'm thinking about reading some Goethe.

Any recommendations as to what I should read first?
