I was looking for some good Iranian/Persian book recommendations to get in the mental space of its culture and people.

Probably the modern books are the best to achieve that but I'm getting the sense of repetitiveness of people talking about the Islamic Revolutoin + immigration issues.

The wiki recommends these:

Three Drops of Blood (1932) by Sadegh Hedayat
The Patient Stone (1967) by Sadeq Chubak
The Little Black Fish and Other Modern Persian Stories (1968) by Samad Behrangi
Missing Soluch (1979) by Mahmoud Dowlatabadi
Women Without Men (1990) by Shahrnush Parsipur

But right now only Mahmoud Dowlatabadi seems to catch my eye. Maybe Colonel?
Any of you have any pointers or opinions?
