Just read the first 2 books of Metamorphoses by Ovid, and holy shit I am in love. I liked Homer, but this is way better than anything I've read by him.

Will I be fucking myself over if I read Martial and Catallus translated before I read them in Latin?

I'm at a stage in Latin where I've finished Lingua Latina and Wheelock's and I am currently slowly going through Seneca's Letters, strengthening my vocab and enjoying it, but I really want to read Virgil and Petronius and Lucretius especially because I'm finished with the Greeks, and since I'm nowhere near comprehending them, would I compromise myself by reading them in English?

I have never met a professor who would "shit on Ancient Hellenistic" society. Maybe some critical theory professors would do this, but nobody who specializes on ancient Greece and Rome.
