start with biographies, since those at least have somewhat of a "narrative". pic related would be a good choice, the napoleonic epic is truly one of the most fascinating stories that actually occurred

Les Mis has a pretty sizeable section on Waterloo as well that you can buy as a standalone book. From memory it make a lot of references without explaining them

Andrew Robert’s Napoleon the Great (sometimes also titled Napoleon, a life) is absolutely fantastic.

Though he does glorify the meat grinder that was the napoleonic wars.
