Don't be afraid to wing things. Find a careful medium on your response time (neither too long nor too short). Focus more on dialogue than prose (no one is really reading your prose). Use a 3d6 system for a long running quest or a 1d100 system for an improvisational quest or no dice at all for a one-shot.

I originally modeled my quest structurally on banished quest but this obviously changed with time.
