Just a thought. I have been told that I have extremely good English, better grammar than even native speakers, but there's a certain tone, a certain cadence to the structure of sentences that distinguish me clearly as a non-native English speaker.
No, I don't think you can become a renowned English author in 2019 as a non-native English speaker. You can become well known in your own sphere and have your books translated, made into games, movies, etc.
