I have 3 large bookshelves full of books. A large assortment of stuff, but I recently had a realization that my collection is so utterly lacking direction I became embarrassed. So I have started to purge books. Books I'll never read, books I read and hated, books I'll never read again, etc.

I want to reconstitute my shelf so there are clear points of focus. e.g. This is the part of my shelf that contains all the books I read when I got interested in roman history. Here is the other part when I got heavily interested in Jung, or Nietzsche. Here is a shelf of 19th century Russian literature. Etc. etc.

Has anyone else come to this realization?

How much do you read daily/weekly?

I know it's a matter of quality over quantity, but I'm curious about other's habits. I personally feel some anxiety knowing that I couldn't possibly experience all worthy books/artworks within my lifespan.

I was in pretty much this exact position last Sunday. All's you need's some good SELF HELP advice.

What you're doing is not impossible. Every retard in your class is doing it. It's actually incredibly easy if you clear all else out of your mind for a few hours. So do that. Start with anything not requiring a computer, start by doing your readings or whatever and do it in the other room to lull you into the work mode. Then just don't go on 4chan. And don't masturbate.

Don't give in to your own self indulgent whining or panicking. 6/7 hours is a long fucking time. A minute used well is a long time.

You're in a shit position so you might as well make the best of it.

So let's say you did read one book a day, for 365 days. And I'm talking serious books, not junk. Would you be significantly smarter after that year?
