Next September I'll start going through the Harvard Classics marathon, studying all texts as described in the syllabus volume.

So, recommend me some practical methods for keeping notes, studying, extracting the most out of the text for later study. Some books would help, but keep it practical please.

Investing 3-5 years in seriously tackling this list will change who you are on a fundamental level forever.

This list is unironically the best if you want good well-rounded knowledge. Of course there are more, there are always more, but this is most of the Canon and after reading these you'll understand 99.99% of references to and in literature and philosophy

Did I misread this or does it really take seven weeks for them to read the Stranger? Also how are the Stranger and Remembrance of Things Past counted for the same points? One can be read in a day and the other is like 50,000 pages.

How do I gain as much knowledge from these books as if I were studying them in college?
While they're interesting and entretaining to read I feel that I'm not retaining as much information as I could since I'm not writing essays or answering questions about them. How do I replicate the liberal arts college experience even just half as good, or even less?
Do I buy textbooks about them? Any anons deal with this?

Not even that anon but if you don't think Hesse is entry-tier you're a fool. Of course literature can be ranked objectively, what would even be the point if not... Hesse doesn't belong anywhere in pic related. You copy and pasted a lot without saying much, at least the other anon structured his points in a meaningful way. Everything he said was right.
