agree with you on the painting front. its always enlightening to see these painters in a more humane light, as people who honed their skills over time. rather than complete maestros from day 1.

whenever i read a good chunk of his letters, the guy just makes me want to draw more lol.

also haven't read much of kroeber, just the initial few pages, seems like grand analysis of culture from various aspects over various civilizations. drama, philosophy, sculptor, science etc.

i've heard of Otto Rank, i think in relation with Freud. Havent read either.
