What is the best self-publishing strategy assuming you are not attempting a gimmicky shotgun strategy where you publish something new every day for pennies.

>none
I have heard most of the common perspectives on self-publishing. I am sure we all have. On the one hand you will not have to deal with a publishing company and do not need to get an agent or anything like that. On the other hand you must do all this self-promotion to sell, what will probably be, far fewer books.

Among people who speak on this often there seems to be those who believe that self-publishing is a dwindling market and those who believe there is still great potential there. I am wondering, what are the best methods for self-publishing. Is it preferable to release parts of a book to entice a reader into buying the rest on Amazon? Is it preferable to give the book away for free at first and then increase the price after you get some 'fans' or reviews? Is patreon a valid way to make an income for an author as it is for some youtubers or is the length of time it takes to write too great for the patience of patrons? In my limited experience I would say certain youtubers who had amassed a decent following of a few thousand people and then release their own work use a viable strategy.

petition to the mods to make a rule about
"What should I expect" and "is this book worth reading" threads
They are blights on /lit/ and need to be pruned the threads should be deleted on sight and Offenders should be given a warning first offense and banned the second

Anyone who agrees contributed to the thread with a "bump" or whatever you like
