At every point in history there has been an intellectual capital of the world.

Obviously, in ancient times, this was Athens.

In the early 20th century, it was Vienna.

In the mid 20th century, it was Paris.

In the late 20th century, it was New York.

Where do you think the highest echelons of intellectual debates take place today?

How can you possibly remember all the important ideas, arguments, facts and quotes from the hundreds of books, articles and essays that you read over the years?

I'm thinking of documenting and categorising this kind of stuff but I can just imagine getting obsessive over it and interrupting the flow of learning.
