Rage Against God probably fits the bill... it seemed too personal initially because he's able to assess what's happening to him as he feels it, but he's dealing with larger subject matter.

In a way I'm glad that the greatest Essayists have never really served in office but their talents are evident. Wish I had some quick summaries of his fave books and poems since, as he's fond of reminding readers, he's had an excellent education.
