I've wasted so much time reading. All these years. All because I'm basically an idiot.

I'm 23 years old and I just started reading books that I actually enjoy and give a shit about. Books that help me enjoy other books and media. Books that are genuine entertainment. I started reading a lot when I was 15 or 16 and I read these big dick classics. When I was 17 I read Brothers Karamazov. I've read Sound and the Fury, War and Peace, all of Oliver Wilde's stuff, all the recommended classics really. Then I got into philosophy and read Metaphysics and First Meditations and Human all too human.

I thought I was hot shit. But you know what? I didn't enjoy any of those fucking books, and I was so young and stupid, I didn't even get what they where trying to tell me.

I read one fucking Phillip K Dick, followed by a little Vonnegut, now I'm on Cormac, and holy shit I've never enjoyed reading so much in my life. I'm reading all the time.

What are some important things to look out for in this novel in terms of symbolism and allusion?

Am I missing something with pic related? It's supposed to be an American Classic, but I didn't really get the overall...purpose (?) of the book.

Like I get the whole violence thing, and the judges speech on war, but the book was essentially a bunch of strung together meaningless encounters, not to mention I find reading McCarthys damn quotationless shit annoying anyway.

I know I'm missing something here, but the book to me just felt empty

Sorry to bring this book up again (I'm fairly sure this is your ITAOTS), but can someone explain why this is praised so highly? Haven't used these terms in a while so excuse me if I use the wrong vocab.

The imagery and prose of the book is really amazing. He beautifully describes the desolate landscape that reflects the madness.

The story was just a little meh. I get he's trying to communicate this ancient and evil thing that's inside man (personified by the Judge), but it seemed a bit lacking.

If you loved the book, please tell me why you rank it so highly.
