I cried almost every canto of the Divine Comedy. They were tears of catharsis though.

I just finished the Divine Comedy. Dante made sure to emphasize 1 million times that the Church should never have gotten involved in temporal affairs, temporal authority, and the search for temporal wealth.
This contrasted to Evola's argument about how when the Ancient Pharaohs were no longer seen as the supreme temporal/spiritual authority(or even divine), the world had already slipped into decay.
Who's right /lit/? Should spiritual and temporal power be separated to create a stable society? What other books talk about this issue?
