Do you think BOTNS would make for a good Souls-like game universe?

Books with this atmosphere? It reminded me of Impressionist music and I'm not saying just to flaunt, I can't really put my finger on it, I love the descriptions of the Citadel and the archaic terminology and the subtle bits about the age of Earth and its' coming death, and the descriptions in the library and the age of the old curator, and that bit about the astronaut except it wasn't described as an astronaut on the moon but a warrior in armour. It carries into the rest of the series but I'm talking specifically about the first book. Sorry for the rant.

any literary works of fiction that:
1) have a cohesive narrative
2) help teach you about yourself?

I feel like fiction is either pulp like Gene Wolf with little value besides interesting story, or something like Dostoevsky where the stories are just a platform for the writer to spend different chapters ranting about some profound concept/idea. Any writer that blends the two? I've had success reading plays, I read Ivanov by Chekhov over Christmas and Ghosts. Their story's just feel more valuable, don't know how to word it without being pretentious. More "artistic", less world-building? Like they're written for a purpose and not just to tell a story.

Any other examples where pulp aesthetics are used in a 'literary' way?

Is this book as good as people say it is, or is it average shit?

Is this book just hyped up or is it actually good?

Following a /lit/ recommendation, I'm finishing the first part of The Book of the New Sun, and so far it seems like a sequence of symbolic episodes whose meaning and interest span beyond the plot.

So I have to ask, is there some place on the internet, besides this one, where I can read people's interpretations on this book?
I do make my on mind about some things in it, but I can't help being curious about other people's opinions.

You now realize The Book of The New Sun is one of the greatest works of literature produced in the 20th century, bar none. It's up there with Faulkner and his ilk.
