What's a good book to get a good sense of the history of philosophy, in terms of chronology and the views of key thinkers?
>read the primary sources, ree!!
I'm not a philosopher, nor do I have interest in becoming one.

Is reading the four books worth it? Should I begin somewhere else? Maybe a thematically structured approach.

It’s not, and hasn’t been since Anthony Kenny’s history was published.

When you are starting out you have to learn something of the history, and you can’t just pick that up from primary texts. Having a solid history at least let’s you organize who relates to who a little bit. Pic related is the best one volume history of philosophy currently available.

I would recommend starting with some sort of history of philosophy book to get a basic understanding what kind of questions the philosophers are working with

Anyone here read this? I'm interested in some sort of work about history of philosophy that isn't thousands of pages long.

So I’m looking to start my philosophical journey and would like a book which covers Western philosophy. I’d prefer not to have one which is less than 300 pages nor a multi volume edition. To those who have read this, would it suffice?

He is insufferable. His analogies and jokes are so cringe that I gave up after a few episodes and just read this instead.

So I checked out the index of this book and Guénon wasn't in it. Is that a good enough reason to drop it? It has Whitehead even though Guénon repeatedly and retroactively refuted that reprobate.
