I met a friend of mine in an MFA ceramics program. He always wore basketball shorts and grandpa button-up shirts. He was totally unencumbered with the unkempt ennui pretension. He just loved to throw clay. He was ten years older than the oldest other student in the program and he was the only one making art for its own sake.

What the other anon said about mainstream media / newspaper / news in general is correct. These things do not educate, they are tools for controlling and manipulating you.

Each country creates a 'story', or 'narrative' about why they are the good guys, and why you should want to be one of them. Political parties push different varients of the national narrative. The narratives conflict and contradict rach other, and various factions battle to control a very subjective global truth. So there is 'chinese truth' and 'american truth', who report contradictory information.

The newspaper you are subscribed to is trying to control your worldview. Reading political works will let you understand what politicians are trying to achieve (power at any cost) and by what methods.

1984, animal farm, the prince, brave new world are some basic entry points to get food for thought.

I don't think there's any question that industrial progress has greatly challenged and will continue to challenge the integrity of our adherence to social norms that have over the course of human history proven instrumental to our civilizational well-being. These norms evolved and endured as a natural function of environmental influence, and while I'd maintain that the majority of them still are, the industrial revolution has shaken our relationship with reality to such drastic measure that clear delineation between useful traditional principles and outdated modalities has become less immediately apparent. Demoralizing and disheartening as our current growing pains are, my hope and belief is that over time we'll figure it out through trial and error.
