Looking for good writers of short stories. I have really enjoyed Checkhov, Joyce and Melville, who else?

I think it is good to have these every now and then. What do we think of the state of the board?
I think it's been improving a little bit recently.

is it fair to seperate literature traditions by country and not by language? Should we really seperate the English from the American or the Spanish from the Argentinian?

in literature, does everything have a greater meaning/symbolism? Or are some things just there for the aesthetic?

When reading a book, should you try to think of it's themes and "message/point" while reading? Or should you first read it as a purely aesthetic experience and think back on the themes after finishing?

I only read books that i really need right now (mostly for marketing, PR). Reading Philosophy is gay and novels are boring.

if /lit/ could save one piece of ancient literature that we have unfortunately lost, what would it be? Personally I would save some of the other poems that were part of the Epic Cycle; I need more greek epics in my life

The other day I was watching a tw*tch s*reamer and someone mentioned reading. His reaction was along the lines of "eww, imagine still reading books in 2020 boomer, just wait for the movie like a modern person." As a zoomer who still occasionally reads books and has even dabbled in writing, it was somewhat heartbreaking to hear, because I feel like alot of people these days have the same attitude.

Do you think literature as a medium is going anywhere anytime soon, or is it just evolving with the digital age? If it survives, do you think paperback will be replaced by computers someday?

Sorry for the intrusion from a /co/ user but what happened to books. They used to be so exciting. The old books, the classics like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and Goosebumps now seem like a relic of the past. Seems everything now is just SJW trash. I was wondering how this board dedicated to books feels about this switch

hello /lit/bros, help me pick the next books I read. With the amount I can spare to spend on books I can buy either:
Infinite Jest AND Notes From The Underground AND Meditations

Or

Complete Plato

I know that the first choice is definitely better value but feel that the Plato is more valuable to actually read. But then, I'm worried I'll lack the motivation to commit to reading Plato (philosophy noob here). pls help
