Is this book any good?

Found a copy in my local secondhand bookshop but flicking through it it didn't seem to be remarkable in any way. What I enjoy most about Pynchon is his strange surreal stories with extremely dense writing. Flicking through it just seemed to be a plain detective novel.

Am I wrong about it? Worth purchasing?

Hey /lit/ I have a question about Inherent Vice by Pynchon

I was at the used bookstore today and found two copies of the book, both hardcover. I went to look under the dust jacket to see what the book looked like and the outside cover was upside down and the text was rightside up inside the book. I looked at the other one and the cover was right side up and the text was the right direction too.

I also noticed however the binding on the inside part was a different color on each of the books so does this just mean the person had the book repaired and accidentally got it put in the wrong way or what? If, did Pynchon have some of his books purposely printed upside down? Is what I found a collectors item and should I sprint back to the store and buy it?

sorry, no pictures I have a shitty flip phone that is difficult to get the pictures off so I didn't take any.

Thomas Pynchon himself released a playlist to his last novel. You can check it at Amazon. I downloaded directly from here:

Pynchon has a great taste in music...

I'm such a huge fan of Pynchon, and listening to him do a commentary for his novel, Inherent Vice, was pretty awesome

Is it just me, or does this book SUCK? Like, a lot?

I've read and loved everything else by Pynchon besides Against the Day.

Now I'm about 100 pages into Inherent Vice... and son, I am disappoint.

This was the only novel I've ever read that's been described as a beach read, although I suppose that it could just be the reviewers being clever because the protagonist lives at the beach.

Sometimes in the shadows the view would light up, usually when he was smoking weed, as if the contrast knob of Creation had been messed with just enough to give everything an under-glow, a luminous edge, and promise that the night was about to turn epic somehow.
