Its performative oppression. They want attention, and for people to sympathize with them, when in reality they're selfish idiots who can't handle that they're probably really boring. It's that whole idea that mental illness could cause you to be an unrecognized genius.

I'll admit I fell into that thinking when I was diagnosed as bipolar type II; hoping that I'd come out on the other side of a manic phase with some nouveau art, but in the end I just amassed a lot of debt and a suicide attempt.
