I reread Worm and Ward by Wildbow and been reading a lot of Parahumans fanfic lately. I'm well aware of Wildbow's flaws, both early in his career and in general. Nonetheless, Worm has a special place in my heart. Some of it is nostalgia but a lot of it is the fact that it seems almost perfectly tailored to my specific tastes. If you're looking for a recommendation of a novel length fic that bucks a lot of the battleboarding and self-insert trends of the fandom I recommend The Underside of Gotham. It doesn't require intimate knowledge of either franchise and is graciously quite dissimilar from the Wayne Family Adventures webcomic. It's very character focused.
