Why does /lit/, and people in general, over analyze books and then argue about their meaning? Are books not entertainment? Why does every single book have to be some hidden philosophical agenda that needs to be picked apart and debated over like third graders fighting over Power Ranger colors? Outside of the original author's ideas, there should be little room for debate, right?

If not, please explain to me why, because I'm sick of coming here and seeing nothing but pointless arguments. I hate most books I read, but you guys make me hate them even more.

What did my fellow e/lit/ists think of this particular episode of South Park?

Personally, I found it to be painfully true. People trying to find some kind of underlying meaning in books that have none, or finding cultural messages that weren't intended
