Based forehead with one book still haunting people from beyond the grave. Very interesting link.

I liked it, it helped me quit drugs.

Some of Marx's criticisms are well founded, e.g., that Stirner doesn't seem to understand Stoic philosophy, and if he does, he intentionally misconstrues their aims to fit them into his rather rushed, idealistic account of history, but he (Marx) never successfully undermines Stirner's central concept of egoism as the driving force of all life. Marx manages to show that Stirner puts too much weight on ideals in his account of history, but that's really about all. And given that this is the only substantial criticism I have seen, other than those that I could make, I think I'm content "to be the egoist myself."

Glad to see some love again for The Ghost Toaster, The Geist Meister (not Hegel), The Specter Deflector, etc. Following that conversation with the 15 y/o who thinks Stirner is into child murder provides me with egoistic delight, since if I hadn't read Stirner I would probably be wasting my life doing drugs instead of getting sober and finding a job.

"What is not supposed to be my concern! First and Foremost, the Good Cause, then God's cause, the cause of mankind, of truth, of freedom, of humanity, of justice; further, the cause of my people, my prince, my fatherland; finally the cause of Mind, and a thousand other causes. Only my cause is never to be my concern. 'Shame on the egoist who thinks only of himself!'
...
God and mankind have concerned themselves for nothing, for nothing but themselves. Let me then likewise concern myself for myself, who am equally with God the nothing of all others, who am my all, who am the only one."

Stirner actually said the exact opposite.

He argued they were useful as long as you recognize them for what they are. Giving up your life is pretty much the only thing that by definition cannot benefit you. Your corpse may be buried in some sandy shit-hole thousands of miles from your home after you've been tortured to death by lunatic Muslims, but hey, at least you defended "your country."

>all this "shoulding"

"Man, your head is haunted; you have wheels in your head! You imagine great things, and depict to yourself a whole world of gods that has an existence for you, a spirit-realm to which you suppose yourself to be called, an ideal that beckons to you. You have a fixed idea!"

>I refer you to a restatement of my dogma so that you will agree with me
>you don't need to agree with me, but I'm right

OK shortstuff, keep up the Good Fight. But I will say this: we're always in a "state of anarchy." The "State" in the sense of government is a notion in the mind, a spook. It does not exist, people who believe in it (cops, lawyers, judges, politicians, constituents, etc.). I have dislodged it from its place of power over me, and you can do the same by willing.

To me that shows how correct he was. Academics are content to parrot Marx's criticism despite the fact it is literalist, vapid, and vaults to the heights of autism.

Once again confirming that nothing good has ever come from reading translations.

If you use democracy, i.e. annihilate it through consumption and shit it out to make it nothing to you intellectually, it ceases to be a spook and becomes, on the other hand, a tool. You use "democracy," i.e. people who believe in this nothing, and the creativity entailed by the nothing, to your ends.

If you let it consume your mind, impel your mind to freedom while you ascetically waste away your body in a perpetual lotus pose, or charge like a rutting bull moose at anyone who opposes your precious "democracy," you have become its tool and so "spooked" by it. Like a dog at thunder or a horse at a flashlight.

Personhood is a spook if ever I saw one.
